COVID-19 Policy - The Motion Academy

Preface

About COVID- 19

COVID-19 (AKA Corona Virus)  is a respiratory illness caused by a new virus. Symptoms include fever, coughing, sore throat and shortness of breath. The virus can spread from person to person, but good hygiene can prevent infection.

For many people, the symptoms of covid-19 will be no worse than the flu. Children are very low risk and are largely unaffected by the virus but can still carry and pass it on to others. The elderly (over 60) and people with pre-existing health conditions are at much higher risk of experiencing complications and needing medical intervention.

One of the biggest issues with COVID-19 is the speed in which it spreads under normal social conditions. COVID-19 has been shown to spread much faster than the flu. Our duties as individuals need to be taking preventative measures to slow the spread of the virus to minimise the impact on the health care system. This is being referred to as ‘flattening the curve’.

The purpose of this policy

The purpose of this policy is to reduce risk of infection of the new COVID-19 virus to our members, visitors and staff. By following general social distancing practices and adopting the practices in this policy we also aim to help reduce the rate of infection to the general public and ‘flatten the curve’.

Gym Wide

  • Contact with quarantined people / persons recently arrived in Australia
We ask that anyone who lives with or has had close contact to someone that is currently quarantined or has recently arrived in Australia from overseas does not visit the gym for 14 days from the date of arrival in Australia.

  • Max Capacity 25 person
We have introduced a 25 person max capacity limit to our facility. This includes, members, spectators, students etc.

  • Deep cleans
We are conducting a deep clean of the entire facility at the end of each day. This includes cleaning and disinfecting all equipment, high traffic areas, waiting areas, receptions, bathrooms, kitchen and gym area.

  • Between session mini cleans
Between sessions we are ensuring that the following is disinfected; all used equipment, bathroom taps, door handles, handrails, water cooler, kitchen taps and bins.

  • Displaying Symptoms
If you are displaying any flu-like symptoms (Cough, fever, shortness of breath, feeling unwell) please do not attend the facility. Any visitors displaying these symptoms will be asked to leave.

  • Family Members
If you live with family members that are displaying any flu-like symptoms (Cough, fever, shortness of breath, feeling unwell) please do not attend the facility.

  • Hand hygiene
We have placed alcohol based hand sanitiser at the front desk and main entrance / exit to the gym floor. We ask that all visitors sanitise their hands upon entry and exit to the gym floor.

  • No communal cups
We will no longer have cups, mugs, glasses etc available in the kitchen area. Please ensure that you have your own water bottle with you.

  • High Fives, Hugs & Hand shakes
As much as we all love a good high 5 at the end of a tough session, we are going to have to stop this practice for the time being. Close contact is the main way that the covid-19 virus is spread, we ask that everyone reduces the amount of contact they have with other patrons of the gym.

Kids Programs

  • Reduced class times
    We will be reducing class times by 5 minutes to allow a 10 minute cross over time between classes. This practice allows our staff to disinfect equipment between classes and reduces the amount of people in the facility at any given time. Class times will now be as follows;

Monday

Session 1 - 16:00 to 16:55
Session 2 - 17:05 to 18:00

Thursday

Session 1 - 16:00 to 16:55
Session 2 - 17:05 to 18:00
Saturday

Session 1 - 09:30 to 10:25
Session 2 - 10:35 to 11:30

We ask that students do not arrive early for sessions, remain in the car until their session is due to start and vacate the premises promptly after their session.

  • No spectators
We understand that many parents enjoy watching their children learn. In order to ensure we maintain our 25 person capacity we are closing our kids waiting area and introducing a temporary no spectator policy. If your child has specific needs that require you to be present, please let our team know in advance so that we can accommodate you.

  • Birthday Parties / Large Groups
At this present time we will not be taking any birthday party bookings or private large group bookings.

  • Holiday camp sessions
Our school holiday program will go ahead as normal but we are limiting our sessions to a 10 person per class cap.

Adult Program

  • Reduced class times
We will be reducing class times by 5 minutes to allow a 10 minute cross over time between classes. This practice allows our staff to disinfect equipment between classes and reduces the amount of people in the facility at any given time. You can find details of the new start and finish times of each class on our online schedule.

  • Sharing Equipment
We ask that all members limit the sharing of equipment during classes and use the wipes and spray provided to clean equipment when you have finished with it.

  • BYO Towel
We ask that any one participating in a class brings their own towel with them to use during floor based exercises.

  • Class Caps
We will be strongly enforcing all class cap limits so please ensure you sign in for all classes that you wish to attend. We have also had to reduce the class caps for our Parkour and Gymnastics classes to ensure we adhere to our 25 person limit.

Notes

School Closures

Many schools may choose (or be required) to close over the coming weeks. This does not necessarily mean that our kids programs will be affected. Our facility and program is very different to a school setting. Schools have hundreds of students and will fall under different guidelines to small clubs and programs such as ours.

Continued Support

The coming weeks will present many individuals and small businesses with lots of challenges. As the situation progresses we ask that you continue to support not only us, but other local businesses. Most small businesses have a very low threshold to the period of time that they can withstand reduced custom / income.

Without support from devoted customers, many businesses will close (and may not have the capacity to re-open) and many employees will lose work and income.

Refunds

In the unlikely event that we are required by either State or Commonwealth Government guidelines to close for a period of time or cease operations of our kids programs (term program or holiday program) we will issue an account credit for the total value of classes missed due to closure. For example, if a term booking has been made for 10 weeks at a cost of $164 and our program is not able to run for a two week period, we will credit you with $32.80 to use towards future programs.
